Thales Alenia Space says a $2.2 billion contract for 81 Iridium second-generation satellites is now in full effect, following finalization of financing. Iridium announced last week that it had closed a credit facility backed by French export credit agency Coface that underwrites satellite design and construction of the spacecraft, including 66 operational satellites, six in-orbit spares and nine ground spares.
