The writers and editors across the Aviation Week Network cast a wide net, and we’ve always been keen to highlight what is great about the aerospace industry. But we don’t see everything. With that in mind, nominations for Aviation Week’s Laureate awards were opened to our readers several years ago. It’s time again for you to weigh in.

Since 1957, our editors have used the Laureate awards to recognize outstanding achievements in aviation, defense and space. Some winners are well known; others are relatively unheralded engineers, inventors or business executives whose innovation, ingenuity and drive have pushed the cutting edge.

This year, Aviation Week expanded the number of Laureate award categories so that we could recognize smaller companies and suppliers in addition to the industry powerhouses. We presented 22 awards in four categories (commercial aviation, defense, space and business aviation), four Grand Laureates (one top winner in each category) and two Lifetime Achievement awards.

Nominating is easy. Go to to view the categories, and then fill out a form telling us who we should be shining a spotlight on and why. But hurry—nominations close on Oct. 18. Winners will be announced in November, and the awards will be presented on March 14, 2019, at a gala at the National Building Museum in Washington.

Attention photographers: Ever dream of getting an image of yours on the cover of Aviation Week & Space Technology? Here’s your chance: Submissions are being accepted through Oct. 22 for Aviation Week’s annual photo contest, a favorite feature among our readers. Enter in up to four categories: Commercial Aviation, Defense, General Aviation and Space. Top winners will receive cash prizes, and notable photos will be posted in photo galleries online and in the Dec. 10 print edition of this magazine. And yes, one of them will be on the cover. Perhaps yours?

Go to to enter, read the contest rules and view last year’s winners and finalists.
