I've never been able to figure out why Lockheed never bought a sailplane when they were designing the U-2. At the time it would have required modifying the landing gear by moving the wheel forward...
1.what is the problem?
2.Solve it in the easiest manner.
3. Bells, whistles and anything not relevant to 2 not allowed.
If you can precision land a booster returning from space on a barge you ought to be able to land a small air vehicle on a pad.
I think Airbus are missing the point though.
