From The Archives: AirVenture 2001 To Highlight Progress Of Powered Flight

The year's theme for EAA AirVenture in 2001 was "Aviation Firsts". Guest invited to the show included Chuck Yeager, the first to fly Mach 1 and Eileen Collins, NASA astronaut, the first female space shuttle pilot and mission commander.

In the article we reported that among one of the "chief attractions" of the 2001 show would be lectures and presentations from the Wright Experience team on how brothers Wilbur and Orville "invented the airplane as well a their use of wind tunnels to research airfoil design".

A reproduction of the 1901 glider would be on display to mark the first centennial of powered flight.
