Sanad, GMF Sign Engine Maintenance Center Memorandum of Understanding

Abu Dhabi-based Sanad Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with GMF AeroAsia to establish a new engine MRO center of excellence in Indonesia.

The companies plan to set up a new facility that will focus on CFM Leap engines at GMF’s existing site at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta.

In addition to the on-site repairs in Jakarta, Sanad plans to provide some repair services at its facility in Abu Dhabi. Sanad, a subsidiary of the state-owned investment company Mubadala, says the new alliance is part of an ongoing expansion strategy to create an international network of engine MRO centers.

The agreement is part of a wider comprehensive economic partnership between the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia that aims to grow the nations’ annual bilateral trade to $10 billion by 2026 from approximately $3 billion in 2021.

Cameroon Launches Aircraft Recycling, Maintenance Training

Cameroon has launched a postgraduate training course for aircraft maintenance and recycling as part of a program to develop the country’s technical skills and air transport industry.

The nine-month course, which began Nov. 14, is Camaroon’s first university-level aviation training. Aviation professionals are normally trained by the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority’s L’Ecole de Formation (EFO).

The specialized university certificate in aircraft maintenance and recycling is open to postgraduate students with existing degrees in mechanical, industrial, electrical or telecommunications engineering.

The EFO will teach theory and practical skills during the first six months, followed by further practical training at the National Advanced School of Engineering in Yaounde and Yaounde air force base 101. Students will then perform a three-month civil aviation internship.

Farsound To Open Madrid Parts Warehouse

Supply chain and logistics systems specialist Farsound Aviation has confirmed plans to open a new engine component warehouse close to Madrid-Barajas Airport by year-end.

UK-headquartered Farsound’s new warehouse and operational facilities are planned to be in San Fernando de Henares, a town in the province of Madrid.

From that location, it is set to supply and maintain components for aeroengines for the aircraft fleet of Spanish carrier Iberia to its MRO division Iberia Maintenance.

Farsound cited the proximity to Iberia’s operational airport base among the new facility’s main benefits. The company says the warehouse will also enable additional space, people and resources with a long-term aim to service new customers across Europe in the future.

CONTRACTS

AMECO was selected by EFW to perform Airbus A330P2F freighter conversions at Chengdu, China, starting in 2023.

Boeing won an Alaska Air Cargo contract to convert two 737-800s to freighters and increase its fleet to five. Coopesa will perform the modifications in 2023-24.

Collins Aerospace signed a five-year contract extension with China Southern Airlines to provide on-site support for integrated drive generators and other generators for multiple aircraft platforms, including the 787, Airbus A320neo and Comac ARJ21.

Embraer won a TUI Group contract to provide component exchange and repair under its pool program for three E195-E2s.

Lufthansa has selected EPCOR to provide APS5000 APU maintenance for its first five 787s.

HAECO signed a branded services agreement with GE Aerospace for CF34-10A maintenance and repair in Xiamen, China.

IAE secured a contract extension with China Eastern Airlines for V2500 maintenance out of the Shanghai Engine Center, a Pratt & Whitney/China Eastern joint venture. The agreement includes EngineWise Data by ADEM (Advanced Diagnostics and Engine Monitoring) for on-wing monitoring.

Lufthansa Technik won a 15-year China Cargo Airlines contract to provide component support for more than 10 Boeing 777Fs.

MRO Japan won a contract from Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines to provide Airbus A321 line maintenance at Naha Airport.

Rolls-Royce won a five-year China Eastern Airlines contract to perform Trent 700 maintenance for 10 Airbus A330s.

Safran Nacelles won a four-year Avianca contract to provide nacelle support services for Leap-powered A320neos.

Satair was chosen by Eastern Airlines Technic to supply a selected scope of part numbers to support fleet maintenance.

Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries won a three-year Flyadeal contract to provide A320 maintenance.
