Senate Passes FAA Funding Bill; Essential Air Service Still Alive
The U.S. Senate late Thursday passed its two-year FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Act (S.223) by a vote of 87-8, rejecting an effort to kill the Essential Air Service (EAS) program in favor of limiting it. The House of Representatives must now pass its FAA bill, so the two can go to conference; time is limited, given the Feb. 21-28 congressional recess and the looming March 31 expiration of the current reauthorization.
