Panasonic Avionics has completed the expansion of its European MRO facility in Dundalk, Ireland—increasing the volume of the site by 500%.

The facility, operated by the company’s Panasonic Technical Services (PTS) division, has increased the size of the location from 6,000 ft.² to 23,000 ft.² and says it has also trebled the size of the workforce at the facility.

The in-flight entertainment (IFE) and communication devices manufacturer first opened the MRO center three years ago in October 2019. 

In Dundalk, it provides repairs, line maintenance, spares parts supply, and technical services and training to customers in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions under Part 145 Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, FAA and UK Civil Aviation Authority certifications.

Following the expansion of the Dundalk operation, PTS says it expects induct 1,500-2,000 units per month at the location. It will carry out repairs on the X series and Next IFE systems, along with Boeing cabin services system equipment. The site will also serve as its European distribution center.

Currently, it operates 10 PTS sites in Europe focusing on line maintenance services. These include line maintenance stations in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Lisbon, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Madrid, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly and Rome Fiumicino airports.

Tom Eskola, vice president and general manager of PTS, says the expansion of the Dundalk facility will benefit its customers in the EMEA regions.
