SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) announced two MRO contracts with airline customers related to Airbus aircraft on Tuesday (Oct. 11).
First, the MRO provider has signed an extension to an agreement with U.S.-based carrier Hawaiian Airlines for airframe base maintenance services for its Airbus A330-200 aircraft fleet. The deal covers maintenance checks for 11 aircraft through to 2027 at its Singapore facility.
Hawaiian Airlines, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, currently operates a fleet of 24 A330-200 aircraft. Both parties have worked together previously on base maintenance and painting services on Haiwaiian’s A330-200 aircraft.
Hawaiian previously signed a contract with SIAEC in 2021 for the A330 fleet to undergo 12-year checks in Singapore. The agreement commenced in March of this year. This previous work was cited by Jim Landers, SIAEC’s senior vice president of technical operations, who said the carrier’s decision to extend its scope of maintenance with SIAEC is an illustration of its confidence in the MRO provider.
SIAEC also confirmed that terms have been agreed to with recently established Malaysian startup carrier MyAirline on an inventory technical management program.
The low-cost airline, based in Kuala Lumpur, was launched last year. It received its first air operator certificate at the end of this September and it is poised to commence services in the final quarter of this year.
SIAEC will provide a parts support program for the airline’s A320-200 fleet, which will number three aircraft once deliveries are finalized. The agreement covers airframe and engine spares, on-site consignment and component pooling support, as well as repair and overhaul services.
The deal will run for the next 10 years, with both parties having an option to extend the contract for a further two years.
Foo Kean Shuh, executive vice president of operations and chief sustainability officer of SIAEC, says for the MyAirline support agreement, the company will utilize its regional network of parts specialists, which includes its recently acquired Kuala Lumpur-based component MRO shop, SR Technics Malaysia.
