Egyptian hybrid carrier Air Cairo has found a niche in its network for its small sub-fleet of Embraer 190s.
The airline has been rapidly expanding in recent years and intends to continue doing so. At last November’s World Travel Market in London, officials from the airline said that it planned to grow from its current fleet of just under 30 aircraft, past its previously announced target of 60 aircraft by 2027, to 110 by 2032.
However, those officials said that it was unlikely that its current group of three E190LRs would increase. The aircraft were acquired from Egypt’s CIAF Leasing in late 2022 and were the last of the first-generation E190 E1s to be built.
The aircraft have nevertheless found a place in the company’s schedules, notably on routes between Egyptian Red Sea resort destinations such as Hurghada and southern and central European cities that are not sufficiently dense to require the airline’s Airbus A320s and A321s.
The 109-seat Embraers are deployed on a series of Italian sectors, such as Naples, Rome and Bologna, as well as to the Hungarian capital Budapest and several secondary Balkan cities.
Air Cairo CEO Hussein Sharif is also on record as saying that the Brazilian crossover jets would be operated on thinner regional sectors in the Middle East and Caucasus such as Beirut, Dubai, Baku (Azerbaijan) and Yerevan (Armenia).
