U.S.-based cargo carrier Kalitta Air is furthering its digitalization efforts through the adoption of software and analytics tools from TrustFlight.

Kalitta Air has chosen to implement TrustFlight’s electronic tech log (ETL), reliability analytics and fleet oversight tools for its all-freighter fleet. It operates a mix of Boeing 777F and 747-400 aircraft.

The airline will use TrustFlight’s ETL to digitally record airframe usage and discrepancies for internal and regulatory oversight. The reliability analytics and fleet oversight tools are part of several new add-ons TrustFlight launched for its ETL. The reliability analytics module provides real-time fleet analytics and insight into aircraft and component reliability using data from the ETL and an operator’s maintenance and engineering system. The fleet dashboard provides real-time aircraft status for engineering, maintenance and operations control teams.

“Implementing electronic logs enables us to benefit from increased operational efficiencies and maintain our reputation for reliable on-time performance worldwide,” says Christopher Barks, director of quality control and chief inspector at Kalitta Air.

Last year, Kalitta Air adopted several other technology tools to streamline maintenance efficiency. In April 2022 it adopted GE Digital’s Asset Records software for streamlining aircraft records and asset documentation. The software can be used to digitize, index and archive maintenance records. It can also connect the records and data of internal and external operations, as well as facilitate documentation between airlines and lessors.

In January 2022, Kalitta Air began using 8tree’s dentCHECK tool for digitally mapping dents. The wireless 3D scanner tool is used to reduce damage mapping and reporting times compared to manual methods.

Kalitta Air has not responded to requests for comment on its ongoing digitalization efforts.

In addition to operating cargo and on-demand charter flights, Kalitta Air provides a variety of aircraft and engine maintenance services for third-party customers through its Kalitta Maintenance subsidiary. Based in Oscoda, Michigan, Kalitta Maintenance specializes in supporting Boeing aircraft.
