As part of plans to add further maintenance capacity, MRO provider LOT Aircraft Maintenance Services has signed terms with a Polish consortium to undergo design and construction of a new MRO facility.
Polimex Mostostal, a construction engineering company, and infrastructure specialist Polimex Infrastruktura will work on the design and construction of the hangar, which LOT Aircraft Maintenance Services (LOTAMS) estimates will be ready in just under two years’ time.
Located at Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport in southeast Poland, the new hangar will have capacity for two widebodies simultaneously or five narrowbodies simultaneously.
Overall, LOTAMS says the facility will have a usable area of nearly 13,000 ft.2 with workshops, technical areas and office space. LOTAMS says the hangar’s primary function will be for base maintenance services.
“This is a huge step towards the development of our company and strengthening LOTAMS' position in the aviation market,” says Aleksandra Juda, president of LOTAMS in a statement released Sept. 11.
Juda says the purpose of the investment of more than PLN 216 million ($5 million) is to create a modern infrastructure that will enable maintenance of aircraft worldwide, including LOT's Boeing 787s. “Our base in Rzeszow will play a key role in providing technical support to airlines and will contribute to the development of the aviation sector in the Podkarpackie region,” she adds.
LOTAMS says the investment will be financed, among others, with funds from the company's Polish Aviation Group owners.
LOTAMS already operates five hangars at its site near Warsaw Chopin Airport. Services include base and line maintenance along with aircraft painting under Part 21 and Part 147 certifications.
