Data Tool: Global Engine MRO Demand, 2023-32

According to Aviation Week’s 2023 Fleet & MRO Forecast, global commercial MRO demand will represent a value of $1026.8 billion for the period of 2023-32. 

Engine maintenance work has the highest share of 46%, around $468.6 billion of the total commercial MRO demand. Components and line maintenance account for 22% and 20%, respectively, while modifications and airframe heavy will see demand around $76 billion and $56 billion, respectively. 

Over the next 10 years, Boeing 737-800 aircraft will see the highest engine maintenance demand, around $55.8 billion. Meanwhile, Airbus A320 aircraft will see demand around $52.3 billion over the next decade.

Aviation Week’s data shows that the majority of the engine maintenance demand will be driven by CFM International’s CF56 engine family and IAE’s V2500 engine type.  

The data below illustrates that the CF56-7B engine variant accounts for the highest engine MRO shop visits, at 20,438. In 2023, the engine type will see a total of 1,750 shop visits related to engine overhauls and engine life limited parts (LLP) services. 

It is forecast that there will be a total of 87,065 shop visits related to engine overhauls and 26,284 related to engine life limited parts services for the period 2023-32. According to the data, there will be a demand of 7,682 engine overhauls and 2,267 engine LLP events in 2023.
