Company: Mirus Aircraft Seating
Product: Based in the UK, Mirus Aircraft Seating manufactures a range of lightweight seats for short- and long-haul aircraft. Mirus says it has the largest commercially available dynamic test facility in the UK, which enables it to test seats on-site. Its customers include Airbus, AirAsia, Boliviana de Aviacion and TUI Group. To support customers, it provides its Mirus Care aftermarket service and an extended warranty that includes lifetime care for seating products. Mirus says the warranty program is unique in the aircraft seating space, giving customers a return on investment within 5-6 years of purchase—around half of the expected lifetime of a seat. Mirus’ flagship Hawk seat and its newest product, the Kestrel seat, are available on Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft. It debuted its latest seat, the Falcon, at this month’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. Designed for Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 aircraft, the Falcon features a distinctive “S” curve backrest, an articulated seat pan and a 13-in. inflight entertainment system as standard.

2. Ramping Up Services
Company: Recaro Aircraft Seating
Product: Headquartered in Swaebisch Hall, Germany with global production facilities, Recaro Aircraft Seating provides passenger seating to commercial airlines, leasing companies and OEMs. It has produced nearly two million seats to date and it has approximately one million seats flying on all continents. Recaro has a 19,000-m2 (21,000-ft.2) customer service facility in Germany and teams worldwide to provide aftermarket support. The company says it invests heavily in its customer service teams so it can offer short lead times for spares, seat modifications, repairs, refurbishments and other services. It also invests approximately 10% of annual revenue into research and development, which Recaro says enables it to expand capabilities and bring more maintenance processes and testing in-house. Its newest product is the CL3810 economy-class seat, which is lighter and offers increased space for passengers. Its BL3710 seat entered service on IndiGo in May, and Iberia became the launch customer for its CL6720 business-class seat in March.

3. Extensive Seating Portfolio
Company: Safran Seats
Product: Safran Seats designs, assembles, certifies and maintains aircraft seats for crews and passengers. Its products include passenger seating for economy, premium economy, business and first-class cabins, as well as crew and helicopter seats. Safran Seats has more than 150 airline customers and over a million seats are flying on commercial aircraft. It has several global repair stations to support customers throughout the product life cycle. In May, FlyDubai announced it would be the launch customer for Safran’s VUE business-class seating product, which is designed to give all passengers a window-facing seating experience using a reverse herringbone layout. This year, SunExpress became the first airline to introduce Safran’s new Z200 economy-class seat. Safran says the Z200 is one of the lightest seats on the market, and it has received more than 50,000 orders for it so far.
